Enjoy life; it is the only one you get
Why is it that ancient older people like me keep on telling young people how to live their lives?
Look at my granddaughters and their skill on mobile phones; their little fingers are a high-speed blur, while I still haven’t worked out how to do a bulk delete of messages, despite watching every video I can find on YouTube.
One by one I have to delete them, the advert from Temu offering half price on pants. I don’t care; I buy my pants from Vinnies at a tenth of list price. OK, bright red pants covered in white spots may not be the height of fashion for an 86-year-old man, but I don’t care; they do the job of stopping people perving on my bare bum.
I will tell you why we try and give benefit of our many years – because we have stuffed up our lives doing stupid things and we want to stop them repeating our goofs.
If you happen to scrape a pass mark in your ancient Egyptian calligraphy exam, there is no point in sulking for the following week – it doesn’t matter a shit.
We are old and have learned the very valuable lesson that life is short, so don’t waste it – enjoy it.
There is Wodhouse’s famous quote: giving up wine, women and song does not make you live longer; it just makes it seem longer.
Now, I run this website to tell people about food, but I am not going to prattle on and on about calories and which plants will lead to a long, healthy life; no, it is about enjoying the special time we have because we only get one go at life.
So enjoy my web, enjoy your food and enjoy life.
