Learning experience

Homeostasis

overeatingMany of my readers know that I am a bit OCDish about how our food system is compromising community health.

The medical facts are simple, everyone has an inbuilt control system which regulates our bodies (homeostasis).

This is our gut brain – a combination of our gut and head brains.

A healthy gut brain is the core to living a long and healthy life while a poor gut brain is the underlying cause of the modern epidemic of overweight, diabetes, heart attacks and dementia.

Our gut brain really matters.

Our modern food system is simply not feeding our gut brain. We need to incorporating into our diet plants grown in living soil, picked and eaten while still fresh.

Learning how to grow plants that feed our gut brain has been the focus of my obsession for many years and the technology is now solid – we know how to grow gut brain food.

But technology is not enough – it must be available to all people who want access.

Google adds campaign

I therefore decided to run a Google adds campaign focusing on gut brain food.

The results can only be described as spectacular with over 4,000 view per day on my web site.

But, and it is a big but, people were just not signing up to learn how to grow their own gut brain food.

Fortunately some people did email me so I was able to get a reasonable picture of what was going on.

Without doubt we can be certain there is a lot of people out there who really understand the importance of their gut brain.

However we live in an era of manipulation of the truth, never let the facts get in the way of a good story. The story is that all you have to do is to take some magic pill.

The web is saturated with manipulative advertising for magic pills, beautiful pieces of marketing relying on alternative facts.

Facts that get in the way

fat and skinny miceMice are cute little creatures who are happy to eat each others pooh. Many other animals such as elephants, eat their pooh as well to develop their gut.

One of the classic experiments was feeding the pooh of a fat mouse to a skinny mouse and vice versa. It is just one of the facts of life that you can make a fat mouse skinny and a skinny mouse fat by simply feeding it the appropriate pooh from another fat or skinny mouse.

Humans are more selective in what we eat and if we really need, for genuine medical reasons, to change our gut biota then we go through a carefully monitored process called faecal transplant or in plain language having someone else’s pooh poked up your bum.

The real facts have not prevented a major, and highly profitable industry developing, based on the idea that you can change your gut biota simply by taking some magic pill.

Inconvenient facts

It is a highly inconvenient fact that the life cycle of the microbes that make up our gut biota is very different to our life cycle (an hour for a microbe is equivalent to a human year).

Within twenty minutes of a cell forming it is dividing (breeding) – beat that you randy teenagers.

It is certainly an inconvenient fact that the end of life for out microbes occurs within three days.

Soil should be teaming with beneficial microbes that will enter the plants and then our gut.

But, and this is the key, we must eat that plant withing three days (at the most) of picking that plants.

This is the absolute essence of the Gbiota box system where people can have a box of plants growing at home in soil teaming with microbes and pick and eat while genuinely fresh.

This is not an alternative fact – it is the way the world actually works.

What have I learned?

I have learned that there are a few people who are quite prepared to go to all the trouble of creating living soil, what is generally referred to as regenerative growing, and grow their own plants and eat while genuinely fresh.

I know these people, I chat to them on email almost everyday, there are people like this all over the world but they are only a fraction of the eight billion people on this earth who need a healthy gut brain.

I thought that if I worked really hard to make creating Gbiota beds and boxes as simple as possible that I could convert many people to becoming Gbiota users.

And sadly I was wrong. Everybody gets things wrong but there is the old saying that the difference between a wise man and a fool it that while they both make mistakes the wise man learns from his mistakes.

The new plan

It is obvious that there are many people who understand the importance of their gut biota however many of these are looking for an easy solution specifically a magic pill.

Many of these are already suspicious of magic pills and could readily be persuaded that growing gut brain food at home is a better solution.

However this must be made easy, easier than can be achieved by improvements in documentation and training for the current Gbiota system.

What is needed is a global network of regenerative growers who can act as local support centres.

Our number one priority must be to establish this network, which could vary from home growers who have expertise in regenerative growing to commercial regenerative growers.

It would certainly help in attracting these growers if we can demonstrate an effective promotion to attract customers to their businesses.

Structures already in place

Structures are already in place.

Gbiota club is a private social media site where consumers and growers can meet up and chat without having their personal data captured.

Pickandeat.shop is a multi vendor web site where growers can display their services and products and set up regular supply of fresh Gbiota boxes.
